Signed on inner lid of mahogany box
measuring 11-1/4" x 5-3/4" "W.C. & J. Neff, Philadelphia. No. 3 1/2
South Seventh Street;" note two (painted red and green) horseshoe
magnets with red coiled electromagnets. Neff was at this address
in the 1850's.

DAVIS AND KIDDER'S PATENT MAGNETO-ELECTRIC MACHINE

Signed and patented by Ariel Davis in 1854
(brother of Daniel Davis). An early example of this machine, signed on
paper label inside lid as well as on interior brass frame and on top of
mahogany wooden box. Machine is complete with early rosewood and
brass handles; horseshoe magnet is painted red and the electromagnets
are covered in red felt; all indicators of early manufacture.

Improved and Compound
Magneto-Electric Machine for Medical Purposes, Ashael Davis, Lowell,
Mass, Box 509". Very similar to the "Davis and Kidder's" machine but
with gold and purple label on inner lid of box which measures 10" x
4-1/2" (h). This machine predates Davis and Kiddler and was patented by
Daniel Davis' brother. Very fine condition, circa 1850.
